Peter and Christ

Here is my post for my religion class. It's a little late since we are in the middle of moving.

Matthew 14:22–33. Walking on the Sea

In Matthew 14:26 it states the disciples saw Christ walking on the water and “they were troubled” and that is was a spirit. The apostles were frightened.
Peter’s response indicated he had faith in Christ.
Peter began to sink because he started to be afraid. He saw the sea tossing and turning and got frightened.  When Peter began to sink he called to Jesus Christ asking Christ to save him. In Matthew 14:31 it says, “immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him”

In Doctrine and Covenants 88:67 it states, “And if your eye be single to my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in you; and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth all things.” I think this relates because Peter because he followed Christ and his desires were parallel to Heavenly Father’s and Christ’s. This made it so Peter was filled with the light of Christ. I think I be better at following the commandments and trying to make my will parallel to God’s and Christ’s will.

John 7:10–17. How to Know the Truth of the Savior’s Doctrine

In John 7:12 it states some people thought Jesus was a good man, and others thought he deceived people. I think these thoughts and reactions of people back then match up well with people now. Some people have faith and love Christ, and others mock and don’t have faith. I don’t think thoughts have really changed, which is interesting, because there are hundreds of years between then and now. The Jews asked how Jesus knew the stuff he knew, when he hadn’t been taught. Jesus explained it wasn’t his doctrine, but God’s doctrine.

Jacob 4:14 explains the Jews despised plainness and searched after things they didn’t understand. They were stiff necked. Colossians 2:8 cautions against men teaching philosophy and vain deceit after the traditions of men and the ways of the world. Doctrine and Covenants 93:11-17 explains Jesus didn’t have a full knowledge from the start. He learned and progressed. We learn and progress, just like Jesus did, although a much slower rate, I’m sure. Jesus Christ received all power from heaven and on earth and the glory of God was with him.
