Apostles of Christ and John the Baptist

This is for my religion class again. I'll be posting about once a week about different things.

Apostles of Christ

The apostles of Jesus Christ:

Simon
Peter
Andrew
James
John
Philip
Bartholomew
Thomas
Matthew
James
Simon
Judas

A few facts about 3 apostles:
- Matthew was most likely a thorough Jew with knowledge of the Old Testament scriptures and able to see Jesus Christ’s life fulfill prophecy.
- John did not die but has remained on the earth as a ministering servant until Jesus Christ’s Second Coming.
- James was chosen to be present at the raining of Jairus’s daughter, at the Transfiguration, and at Gethsemane.

Here is my definition of an apostle:
An apostle is one that is sent for to be a special witness of Jesus Christ to all the world.

Q: How did Jesus Christ’s teachings to his apostles prepare them to proclaim the gospel?
A: Jesus instructed the apostles on whom to seek and teach. He explained the apostles should take care of people’s spiritual needs. He also taught them to be wise and beware of evil men. One of my favorite things Jesus taught the disciples for teaching and proclaiming was to not think of how they would speak because the Spirit would direct them in what to say.

Q: How the apostles answered the Savior’s call. How can I apply the same things in my life?
A: They did as they were asked without question. They followed Jesus Christ. I can apply these actions by willingly doing the things I should in the gospel, such as reading my scriptures, praying, etc.

John the Baptist

If I was with the men that went and talked to Jesus for John, I think I would tell John when I got back about all the incredible miracles. There were dead raised and blind healed, along with deaf, lepers, and a lot of other people. I would tell John about the miracles.

John knew without a doubt who the Savior was. He sent his disciples to Jesus for their own edification, to strengthen their testimonies, and to gain their own testimonies of what John had been teaching about Christ.

Jesus Christ said there was no greater prophet than John the Baptist. Joseph Smith gave the following reasons for why John the Baptist is considered as one of the greatest prophets:
“First. He was entrusted with a divine mission of preparing the way before the face of the Lord. Whoever had such a trust committed to him before or since? No man.
“Secondly. He was entrusted with the important mission, and it was required at his hands, to baptize the Son of Man. Whoever had the honor of doing that? Whoever had so great a privilege and glory? …
“Thirdly. John, at that time, was the only legal administrator in the affairs of the kingdom there was then on the earth, and holding the keys of power. … These three reasons constitute him the greatest prophet born”

John the Baptist’s humility and selflessness are expressed in John 3:30. We should all strive to be humble and selfless.
